Logo Creation + “The Three P’s of Property Ownership”
Logo created by Sabrina Hurst- Myers of Bella Verde Creative. I love it!
When I was thinking about the process of logo creation for my real estate business, the most salient question in my mind was how I wanted to be represented to those that might not know me. My friend Sabrina Hurst- Myers of Bella Verde Creative was the person that made my vague murmurings materialize into something real. We had a lot of fun in the design process. She really listened to my wants and needs; I wanted a logo that conveyed approachability. Also, I wanted it to be modern, but not elitist or sleek. And familiar. Relevantly, I also was toying with the idea of trying to represent music in the logo somehow, since I love getting friends and clients that are friends together for live music. But a guitar didn’t make sense and I didn’t want musical notes on there.
Ultimately, she plucked something out of the ether that struck a vibe with me that feels just perfect: an acorn.
When I was just starting in real estate, there were some tough stretches where I toggled between self doubt and self belief. Out of that period came several songs that reflect that sort of professional purgatory, including what might be the song I am most proud of, called “Learn to Grow.”
There’s no reason it should not be me
I’ve got this pocket full of acorn seeds
Tuck them tight into the loam
I’ll be back, yeah, I’ll be home
Learn to grow
Sabrina knows this song because she’s my friend; also, her husband is my bandmate and knows my songs more intimately than anyone else besides me. (Make a note: hire a graphic designer who knows you!)
The acorn became a focal point for the logo because of what they symbolize to me: “The Three P’s” of Property Ownership.
Patience. Like an acorn, a property takes time to appreciate in value, and of course, renovations and improvements take time and money. Often those improvements are added incrementally, like tree rings, branches, and size.
Prosperity. A property can be the catalyst for your personal prosperity. Our family home where we raised our children for 17 years provided us with wealth that could only have come from real estate. The sale of that house enabled us to achieve a literal dream of owning waterfront property; now, we repeat the cycle of improvement and appreciation. At first, it was terrifying and felt out of reach. Each year, though, the payments became a little easier and our equity in the home grew.
Potential. An acorn has the potential to become a tree that lives for centuries and grows to behemoth size. It has the potential to change the landscape all around it. It has the potential to provide habitat, food, shade, and so much more in the place it is planted…exactly, too, what a home and property can do for any of us.
So, when asked, “what’s the deal with the acorn?” This is what you’ll hear me say. I couldn’t be more proud of the logo and I feel so lucky to have worked with Sabrina. It’s me, through and through. These are the things that I am about.
